The number of overseas Vietnamese back home for upcoming Tet Holidays represents an on-year increase of 50 per cent, most of whom are from the US, according to the customs department of the Ho Chi Minh-based Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

During these days, the southern international airport welcomes on average around 10,000 overseas Vietnamese per day.

Another statistics from the municipal tourism department showed that Ho Chi Minh City has so far this month received about 8,300-8,500 international visitors per day, half of whom are overseas Vietnamese returning to their homeland for the Lunar New Year Festival.

Customs procedures and services at the airport have been improved, shortening the time for check-in to several minutes, a customs official said.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese expatriates expressed they were really moved by the solicitude of the airport officials, particularly enthusiastic assistance of volunteer youths at the airport. (Labour, thanhnienonline)
