Vietnam and South Korea will discuss ways for South Korean companies to enter the Vietnamese wireless telecom, nuclear power plant and financial markets, officials said on March 19.

The two countries plan to work on the issues during the 11th round of South Korea-Vietnam joint economic committee talks, held in Vietnamese capital Hanoi on March 20, the South Korean Trade Ministry said.

The agenda includes discussions of trade difficulties between South Korean and Vietnamese companies, such as debt, the ministry said.

In addition, they will discuss the expansion of South Korea’s grant aid and soft loans to Vietnam, as well as introducing Vietnamese human resources into South Korea, the ministry added.

The two sides will cooperate in pushing for a free trade agreement between South Korea and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the ministry said.

South Korean companies’ investment into the Southeast Asian country has soared since 2005, increasing to US$1.7 billion in 2006 from US$362 million a year earlier, according to South Korea's Export-Import Bank. (Yonhap)
