Vietnam's Rubber Export Down Sharply in Q1
Vietnam is estimated to have exported 148,000 tons of rubber worth $250 million in the first quarter of this year, down 9.4% in volume and 7.0% in value compared to the same period 2006, according to the latest General Statistics Office report.
The report showed that Vietnam has fulfilled only 19.7% of its yearly plan, its target is 750,000 tons for all of 2007.
In March alone, the country shipped 50,000 tons of rubber, earning $84 million and hitting on-month rises 4.0% in volume and nearly 3.0% in value.
Vietnam’s rubber export particularly decreased in Feb with only 48,000 tons worth $82 million, down 25% in volume and 23% in value compared with Jan.
Luckily, Vietnamese rubber products have been selling well thanks to high demand. Export prices of most kinds of Vietnamese rubber were increasing during the past three months, following the rise of rubber in the world market, standing at $1,650 per ton in Jan and $1,773 per ton in Feb, on average.
