After more than 300 years of construction and development, Phan Thiet City has comprehensively developed to become an active economic and tourism centre.
A tourism hotspot
In Phan Thiet City resorts, you will feel the sense undisturbed nature on beaches and sand dunes, and the best comfort in an area with aesthetically pleasing architecture, luxury suites and perfect services. Victoria, Novotel, Full Moon, Coco Beach, Phu Hai, Saigon - Mui Ne and Lang Tre resorts have become places of interest for international visitors.
In Phan Thiet, you will explore precious cultural and historical values in Duc Thanh School, Poshanu Tower, Van Thuy Tu Palace and Lau Ong Hoang. In addition, Phan Thiet has a lot of traditional festivals like boat racing on the Ca Ty River, Nghinh Ong ritual by Chinese Vietnamese and a festival of passing Mui Ne sand hill. Local specialty dishes of the coastal region also expose the cultural characteristics of Phan Thiet City.
Phan Thiet is now a tourism hotspot and is named the capital of resorts in Vietnam. In 2006, Phan Thiet received 1.644 million visitors, including some 137,350 foreigners, up 52.6 per cent against 2005. Currently, investment in tourism projects in Phan Thiet City is rising. In 2006, the Binh Thuan Province People’s Committee approved five new tourism projects and two project expansions, with a total registered capital of VND277.97 billion (US$17.31 million). So far, Phan Thiet has 197 tourism projects valued VND4,189.33 billion (US$262 million), covering 798.04 ha, including eight wholly foreign-invested projects. About 75 projects are partially operating during construction, and 42 are under construction.
A seaborne economic zone
Ca Ty River in Phan Thiet City runs into the sea; hence, a busy fishing port has long been established in the locality. At the moment, the Phan Thiet fishing port is expanding to become one of the three major fishing ports of Binh Thuan Province. Province approval for developing an aquatic processing zone in Phan Thiet City is a good beginning for construction and development of export processing plants. In addition, the city has several shrimp farms with estimated output of 435.9 million post shrimps in 2006, an increase of 24.54 per cent against a year earlier. Especially, Phan Thiet City is well-known for anchovy fish sauce - a combination of fresh anchovies of Binh Thuan waters, and the fish sauce production secrets of Phan Thiet people. At present, the city has allocated an anchovy fish sauce production zone in Phu Hai. Total fish sauce yield was 19.6 million litres, 70 per cent for northern provinces, 30 per cent for local consumption and visitors. In the industrial field, Phan Thiet City has Phan Thiet Industrial Zone, currently being expanded for the second phase, the first phase area being fully occupied.
In 2007, Phan Thiet City targets to keep GDP growth at 16 per cent. To realise this goal, the city is actively cooperating with relevant bodies to speed up implementation of investment projects in Phan Thiet industrial zone and Phan Thiet aquatic processing zone. It will resolve all difficulties for investors to carry out licensed projects, and call more investment in entertainment and water sports projects. In 2007, the city targets to receive 1.8 million visitors.
