Small pieces of metal and stone ware, knives, hoes and drums all contain Vietnamese characteristic culture. The stamp of human history and traces of dramatic and magnanimous wars are preserved, in an ancient but modern, Vietnamese-style and Europe-style space.
Past the bustling and hustling downtown roads to a place under the shade of century-old trees, you will see a splendid mixture of Oriental and Occidental architectures. That is the National Museum of Vietnamese History at No. 1, Trang Tien Street, Hanoi City.
The National Museum of Vietnamese History was founded on the material basis of the Louis Finot Museum (named after a French scientist who built the museum), which was built in 1926 and completed in 1932. The museum was also known as “Nha Bat Co.” This is one of the most beautiful architectures, not only in Hanoi, but throughout Vietnam. The museum was designed by French architect Ernest Hébrard.
Twenty-three years after inauguration, the Louis Finot Museum was renamed to National Museum of Vietnamese History. On September 3, 1958, the National Museum of Vietnamese History was officially opened for visitors, vividly showcasing specimens from prehistory to the August Revolution of 1945. The storehouse held specimens and artefacts of different materials like Champa stone sculptures and exhibits are frequently changed, introducing new things to visitors. Certainly, we see the Ngoc Lu bronze drum - the most beautiful drum in the world and a precious object of Vietnam, at the National Museum of Vietnamese History. The outdoor exhibition is very attractive to visitors because of its combination of ancient objects and natural scenery. Especially, during evening festivals (museum by day or gala diner by night), the yellowing lights bring out the museum's best side.
Combining internal and external beauty, and intrinsic cultural values, the National Museum of Vietnamese History is a leading museum in Vietnam and the region. The museum keeps more than 130,000 rare specimens and artefacts, including so-called “national specious objects.” The National Museum of Vietnamese History is regarded as one of the best museums in Vietnam with more than 80 staff working in seven functional committees.
For nearly 50 years, the National Museum of Vietnam History has been a place for those wishing to explore Vietnamese traditional values, or see ancient artifacts and art. For more information please visit the museum website:
