Vietnam will export more tea to Morocco market if local tea processing enterprises pay more attention to products’ appearance and quality, advised Vietnam Commercial Affair in Morocco.

The affair said Vietnamese green tea has entered Morocco market since 2006, but the volume is not big, adding that the Vietnamese tea is suitable to Moroccan consumers’ taste but it is still badly packed.

Chinese tea is now a tough rival for the Vietnamese tea in penetrating into the Morocco market because it has dominated the market for a long time with reasonable and suitable taste.

Presently, Morocco imports around 98 per cent of green tea from China.

The affair said Moroccan consumers are interested in Gunpowder tea imported from China. However, processing technology of this kind has not yet appeared in Vietnam.

The affair advised Vietnam Tea Association to learn from tea processing technologies by inviting Moroccan experts to Vietnam who will also provide more information about Morocco market.

Tea is an important export for Vietnam. In the first half of 2007, the country exported 47,000 tons of tea, earning US$44 million. The figure marked on year rise of 3,000 tons in volume but the same in value.

By 2010, the country plans to export 140,000 tons of tea worth US$190 million.

The country’s major earners are black, green and jasmine teas which are mainly shipped to Pakistan, mainland China and Taiwan, Russia, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Germany, Poland and the United States.

Last year, Vietnam exported 105,000 tons of tea, including around 65,300 tons of black tea, over 27,000 tons of green tea and nearly 3,800 tons of jasmine tea, totaling US$111 million. (Trade)
