Truong Hai Auto, Vietnam’s second largest maker in sales volume, said it signed nearly 400 orders to sell its cars at Autotech 2007 trade fair in Hanoi last month.

This is largest number of business deals signed at the fair. A total of 900 deals were signed.

Most orders are placed for imported sedans like KIA Picanto (Kia Morning), Rio , Cerato, Optima, New Carens and Sorento.

This is a surprising result because Truong Hai is strong at selling truck, a trader said.

Also at the fair, Vinamotor also won nearly 200 deals for its Transinco buses, followed by Ford Vietnam with 150 orders, mainly for Everest SUV and Ha Giang Electrical Mechanic Co. (EMC) with more than 100 contracts, mainly for its Jiefeng light trucks.

According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), Truong Hai Auto sold 4,461 cars in the first six months of this year, keeping 15.6 per cent of the market share, only second to Toyota Vietnam with 28.6 per cent market share.
