Vietnammms CPI Rises 6.19 per cent in Jan-July

The consumer price index (CPI) is estimated to have risen by 0.94 per cent in July, pushing the inflation rate in the first seven months to 6.19 per cent, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) reported Tuesday.
 
The CPI escalated by 8.39 per cent from last July, GSO said.
 
In July, price of foods and foodstuffs inflated by 1.59 per cent from June, registering the highest rise. It accounts for 42.8 per cent of the basket of ten commodity groups used for CPI calculation.
 
The housing and construction material group followed with the price hike of 0.73 per cent on-month, and the medical and healthcare products group ran up with a rise of 0.69 per cent.
 
Transport and communication means saw the slowest price rise of 0.16 per cent, of which postal services and telecommunication price fell 1.13 per cent.
 
Since the beginning of this year, housing and construction material was the fastest price inflation group, increasing by 9.03 per cent, following by food and foodstuff group by 8.5 per cent.
 
Food and foodstuff group registered the highest CPI rise of 11.13 per cent on year.

The CPI went up 0.84 per cent in urban areas and 0.97 per cent in rural areas this month.
 
The Red River Delta region saw the highest increase of consumer price with the rise of 1.5 per cent on month, followed by the North Ease region with 1.08 per cent.
 
Among provinces and cities, Haiphong City witnessed the highest CPI rate of 1.8 per cent, followed by Thai Nguyen 1.1 per cent.
 
The gold price is estimated to have fallen 0.59 per cent in July, but it still rose by 4.39 per cent from last year’s end and by 5.51 per cent one year ago.
 

The prices of US dollar rose 0.22 per cent against the Vietnamese dong from last month, 0.32 per cent from last December and 0.95 from last July. (GSO July 2007)
