Vietnam to Debut E-commerce Association
Vietnamese relevant authorities plan to officially launch the Vietnam E-Commerce Association (VECOM) July 25, to pass its charter and operation program, local media reported.
VECOM was set up June 25, 2007 in compliant to Decision No. 706/ QQÄ-BNV of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The Ministry of Trade (MoT) said that around 130 enterprises have to date joined the association.
The ministry recently formed the VECOM lobbying board chaired by Dr Le Dang Doanh, Head of the Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM). The board is a nonprofit organization that will bring together ecommerce firms under its umbrella.
According to the MoT’s recent report, only 8 per cent of Vietnamese enterprises use ecommerce in business, 55 per cent of which having participating in one or more transactions of this kind.
The figure marks a big improvement for Vietnam’s IT sector, as few local businesses accessed ecommerce just two years ago.
Up to 81.5 per cent of companies use email in business with partners. However, the rate of online payment still remains low at only 3.2 per cent of enterprises, mostly in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. (Investment, Vietnam Panorama)
