Vietnam's Confectionary Giants Boosting up Moon-cake Export
Listed confectionary producers in Vietnam, Kinh Do and Bibica announced they will intensify exporting moon-cakes this mid-autumn.
Kinh Do, the biggest moon-cake producer, said its total moon-cake export volume will increase by 30 per cent against last year, with the US, Germany, Singapore, Malaysia and Singapore being targeted due to a large number of oversea Vietnamese people.
The company will also offer totally 1,500 tons of moon-cake at local market, down from 1,800 tons in 2006’s mid-autumn.
Meanwhile, Bien Hoa Confectionary JSC or Bibica plans to double its total production of moon-cake in 2007, to 500 tons.
It will ship five containers of moon-cakes aboard this year, mainly to the US, Singapore, Cambodia and Laos. In 2006, the company exported four containers to those markets.
Last year, prices of materials for moon-cakes soared by 20 per cent-40 per cent from 2005, pushing local producers to increase prices of almost kinds of cakes by nearly 10 per cent.
Despite the price hike, total moon-cake volume consumed in 2006 reached around 6,500-6,800 tons. Vietnamese consumers, thus, were estimated to have spent over VND800 billion on seven million tons of moon-cakes. (Stock Investment)
