Vietnam Plastic Exporters Earn US$442Mln in Jan-August
Vietnam’s plastic exporters are estimated to have shipped abroad US$442 million of plastic products in the first eight months of this year, up 49.4 per cent on-year, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) showed.
In August alone, the industry shipped US$65 million of plastic products, down 46 per cent on month, GSO said.
The sector is set to rake in US$580 million from export this year, an increase of 21.3 per cent against last year, mainly to markets of high demand including the US, EU, Northern Europe, Japan, and South Korea, said the Vietnam Plastic Association.
By 2010, the country is set to produce some 3.8 million tons, or a per capita output of 42 kg a year, much higher than 1.7 million tons and 23kg of 2006, respectively.
Vietnam is now home to 1,400 plastic manufacturers, with more than 80 per cent located in Ho Chi Minh City. (Hanoinet, GSO Aug Edition)
