A conference on development of private businesses will be held in Hanoi on September 7, expected to attract 450 representatives of family-run businesses, trade associations and concerned agencies nationwide, state media said.

The event, with the participation of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, will be a chance for local enterprises to submit their proposals to the Government in terms of business environment, administrative reform and solutions to boost their operations.

Vietnam has made great efforts to reach the set target of having 500,000 non-state enterprises by 2010, which is proved by the strong development of this economic sector in many cities and provinces, particularly Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Ha Tay and Bac Ninh, said Vu Tien Loc, Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He, however, added that, to realize the goal, the country needs to pay more attention to improve business environment for private companies.

“Surveys showed that some 22.9 per cent of Vietnamese enterprises have to spend over 10 per cent of its operation time on completing administrative procedures, while up to 68.68 per cent out of a total 6,700 surveyed businesses have to pay extra expenses”, he added.

As of late May this year, Vietnam reported around 260,000 non-state enterprises with total capital of VND600 trillion (US$37.5 billion). Among those, limited companies account for 46.9 per cent, followed by private companies with 36.4 per cent and joint stocks companies with 15.2 per cent. (Investment)
