Vietnam, home to five World tangible heritage sites, welcomed more than 30,000 Russian tourist arrivals in the first eight months of this year, posting an on-year increase of 60 per cent, according to the General Statistics Office.

The percentage put Russia in the second position among top visitor markets of Vietnam with the strongest year-on-year growth during the reviewed period.

In the first half alone, the number of Russian visitors to the communist country surpassed 25,000, a 65 per cent year-on-year rise.

Most Russian visitors chose sea resorts for their holidays in Vietnam, the GSO said.

According to tourism experts, Russian tourists spent more money on luxury services in Vietnam than other foreign visitors. Their spending money is about 40 per cent higher than the overall average of $800 per person during their stay in the country.

Last year, Vietnam earned a total of $3 billion in revenues, of which $50 million came from some 30,000 Russian visitors, statistics from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism showed.

“We are looking for more Russia arrivals in the upcoming time,” an official from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism said, adding that many activities have been launched to lure Russian vacationers.
Russia now ranks 15th among Vietnam's tourism markets with travel companies such as Saigontourist and Ben Thanh Tourist receiving the largest numbers of Russian visitors. (GSO)
