Vietnam's Export to Japan Hits US$3.67 Bln in Jan-August

Vietnam had shipped US$3.67 billion worth goods to Japan in the first eight months, up 5.67 per cent on year, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
 
In August alone, the exports value was estimated at US$528.7 million, down 0.65 per cent on-month but up 10.1 per cent on-year, it said.
 
Apparels took lead with revenue of US$461.8 million between January and August.
 
It was followed by seafood products (US$448.37 million), crude oil (US$438.8 million), electric cables and wires (US$416.5 million), and woodworks (US$202.9 million). 
 
In term of growth rate, coffee posted the highest on-year increase of 58.9 per cent in the January-August, followed by woodworks with 21.2 per cent, electric wires 10.48 per cent, and apparels 7.7 per cent.
 
Meanwhile, commodities such as electronics and computer components, and footwear witnessed strong fall of 11.62 per cent on year and 8.06 per cent, respectively.
 
Vietnam-Japan trade climbed to nearly US$10 billion in 2006, up 21.8 per cent on-year, said the office. Vietnam earned US$5.6 billion from goods exports, up 24.1 per cent on-year while spending US$4.3 billion on Japanese goods, up 18.9 per cent.
 
Vietnam maintained a US$1.3-billion trade surplus with Japan, it explained.
 
The two countries are striving to expand bilateral trade to US$17 billion by 2010. The figure may climb US$18 billion by the year if the two countries sign an economic partnership agreement (EPA) soon. (Vinanet)
