A group of South Korean companies has proposed building a tourism-urban zone worth US$4 billion in central highlands Lam Dong province in a recent meeting with the provincial authorities.

The South Korean firms including Hansol, Yon Woo and Shinhan Bank will join hands with their Vietnamese partner, Dai Phuc Company, to carry out the project.

The Dai Ninh Eco-tourism Urban Zone is expected to be built on a 6,600-hectare site in Duc Trong district, said Hoang Vy Son, vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee.

Son added that the province will create favorable conditions for investors to quickly complete investment procedures for the project including a trade center, an eco-tourism resort and more than 20,000 luxury apartments.

Lam Dong, 308 km from Ho Chi Minh City, has great potentials for tourism development with a convenient climate, together with splendid landscapes and cultural resources.

The number of visitors to the province is estimated to reach 700.000-800.000 per year, including 10 per cent foreigners. Hotels and guest houses see a capacity of 20.000 visitors per day.

The land and climate of Lam Dong is suitable for farm production, especially for cashew plantations, flower plantation and milk-cows breeding.

Abundant natural resource of bamboo trees and an area of 50.000- 70.000 hectares of material forests are the perquisite for developing the paper industry.

The province also possesses many kinds of minerals such as bauxite, kaolin, fire-clay, lignite and tin among others with Bauxit holding the largest reserve of 1.234 million tons and Kaolin of 520 million tons. (Vietnam Economic Times, Youth)
