Vietnam Apparel Needs Self Monitoring Mechanism-U.S. Ambassador
Vietnamese apparel producers and exporters should establish a self monitoring mechanism over their operations, said U.S. Ambassador Michael Michalak during a press meeting November 16 in Haiphong.
Michael Michalak confirmed that he and the U.S. Department of Commerce will continue to impose the mechanism over Vietnam's apparel exports to the end of 2008 while answering on the DOC confirmed no evident to prove Vietnamese dumping apparel products in the U.S. market during the first half.
The mechanism is within the commitments agreed between the U.S. Congress and the Vietnamese government upon the permanent normal trade relations status, the U.S. official noted.
The move is in fact useful for Vietnam as the country has become official WTO member, Trade newspaper quoted Michael Michalak without giving any details.
In the first ten months, local exporters sold US$3.4 billion worth apparel products to the foreign market out of the total US$6.41 billion.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Hanoi forecast that Vietnam apparel exporters will ship US$4.25 billion worth products to the U.S. market this year, up 40 per cent on year. (Trade)
