Vietnam Named among World's Undiscovered Golf Destinations of 2007
The International Association of Golf Travel Operators (IAGTO) has listed Vietnam among six “Undiscovered Golf Destinations of 2007” in realization of its potential, a local newspaper reported.
The award, announced each year as part of the International Golf Travel Market and the golf travel industry’s annual trade show, was presented to Vietnam December 6, in the Gran Melia Hotel, Mexico.
The announcement was based on the following criteria: to what extent is the destination “undiscovered”, qualities that make it an interesting golf destination, attractiveness of the region and courses, course quality and accessibility, Standard of accommodation, friendliness of staff, value for money, and availability of courses.
Other five 2007 finalists among nominees for the award are Abu Dhabi, Costa Rica, Italian Lakes, Kenya, and Oregon.
Currently, there are 15 golf courses operating in Vietnam, with more than 30 projects in some stage of construction. The country’s rising popularity as a golf destination mirrors similar developments for Vietnam on the world stage.
The IAGTO was set up in 1997 as a representative body for a number of the world’s leading golf tour operators. By 2007, IAGTO had more than 900 member companies in 72 countries. (CPV, VietNamNet)
