The Ministry of Industry and Trade has recently decided to establish a task force to monitor the country's apparel exports in a bid to avoid economic losses and to ensure the target export revenue of US$9.5 billion next year, state media said.

The special task force will detect and prevent apparel businesses from all kinds of wrongdoings such as origins, commercial invoices, import and export regulations. It will submit treatment of violated cases to the Ministry and propose necessary adjustments for management operations.

The Ministry urged the force to map out specific working procedures to facilitate exporting businesses.

The force will include representatives from the Departments of Export & Import, Market Management, General Department of Customs, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association.

Vitas chairman Le Quoc An proposed that each apparel exporter to the U.S. should pay 0.01 per cent of their revenues from January 2008 to raise fund hiring viable consultants. Meanwhile, market expert reminded apparel businesses to be alert enough to avoid traps of cheap deals.

The U.S. market is now Vietnam's biggest apparel importer with 56 per cent of the Asian country's apparel export value, or US$3.4 billion out of the total US$6.41 billion in the first ten months. (Vietnam & World Economy)
