Vietnam-U.S. Trade Hits US$12.2 Bln in 2007
Two-way trade between Vietnam and the U.S. was estimated to have reached US$12.2 billion in 2007, up 26.6 per cent on year, said the Commercial Affairs Division under the Vietnam Embassy in the U.S.
Of the total, Vietnam exported US$10.3 billion worth of goods stateside, up 20 per cent on year.
By September of last year, the Southeast Asian nation had jumped to 31st position from 34th in 2006 among exporters to the U.S., according to a report by the U.S.'s Commerce Secretary.
In the nine-month period, apparels still took lead with export revenues of US$3.31 billion, followed by woodworks and furniture (US$882 million), footwear (US$745 million).
Last year, the country's import spending from the U.S. market hit US$1.9 billion, far exceeding the previous year's figure of US$1.2 billion.
The country's main import items included machineries and accessories, vehicle and plastic materials, posting respectively US$US$183 million, US$139 million and US$110 million in the first nine months of last year. (Pioneer, Saigon Liberation)
