Vietnam's Rubber Export Hits US$281 Mln in Q1, up 18 per cent

Vietnam is estimated to fetch up US$281 million from shipping 123,000 tons of rubber in the first quarter of 2008, up 17.9 per cent on year in value despite a decrease of 10 per cent in volume, the General Statistics Office said.
 
In March, the country exported 40,000 tons of rubber, earning US$92 million, equal to the exported volume in February but up by US$1 million in value, the GSO reported.
 
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, export prices of Vietnamese rubber were averaging at US$2,271 a ton during the past three months, up 127 per cent on year.
 
The prices particularly hit US$2,793 a ton to China via Mong Cai border gate last week, up by US$70.1 a ton over several weeks earlier.
 
Le Quang Thung, general director of the Vietnam Rubber Group had predicted export prices of Vietnamese rubber will be US$2,250 a ton on average during 2008, up from US$2,062 in 2007. (GSO March Edition)
