EU Remains Vietnam's Biggest Seafood Importer in First Quarter

The European Union (EU) remained the biggest importer of Vietnamese seafood products when it imported 66,700 tons of seafood products valued at US$210.3 million in the first quarter of this year, accounting for 26 per cent of Vietnam’s total seafood export revenues, the Trade Information Center reported.
 
The figures showed on-year rises of up 20.5 per cent in terms of value and 23.3 per cent in terms of volume, the center said.
 
Japan ranked the second with its market share of 17.4 per cent, importing US$138.59 million worth of seafood products from Vietnam, up 13.5 per cent on year.
 
The U.S. was still the third biggest importer of Vietnamese seafood, but accounting for only 14.1 per cent of Vietnam’s total seafood export revenues and its imports decreased in both volume and value.
 
Figures provided by the General Customs Department showed that in March, the U.S. spent US$112.57 million importing 15,890 tons of Vietnamese seafood products, down 15.2 per cent on year in value and 13.5 per cent in volume.
 
Vietnam exported US$300 million worth of seafood in March, bringing total seafood export revenues in the first quarter of 2008 to US$797 million, up 11.4 per cent on year. (Vinanet, Vasep)
