Vietnam Mulling Pig Export Tariff Hikes
Vietnam authorities will consider raising export tariffs on pigs in an attempt to reduce massive shipments abroad and meet the domestic demand, Nguyen Hung Dung, head of the market management department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade was cited by the Tin Tuc newspaper on May 5.
The domestic demand is rather high, which is estimated at 2.6 million-2.8 million tons of pork a year, he said, noting that demand is keeping soaring.
Tens of trucks are found carrying breeding pigs across border provinces of Lang Son, Quang Ninh, and Cao Bang to China, the newspaper said.
The Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory among pigs have stricken 775 communes and wards in 57 districts in 10 provinces, including Thai Nguyen, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam and Lam Dong.
Vietnamese authorities have culled 254,242 pigs so far. (News, Young People)
