Vietnam's Exports to U.S. Rise 28.46 per cent to US$2.8 Bln in First Quarter
Vietnam was estimated to fetch US$2.82 billion from goods exports to the U.S. in the first quarter of this year, up 28.46 per cent on-year, according to the U.S. International Trade Commission.
Meanwhile, the country imported US$797.1 million worth of products from the U.S., a sharp on-year increase of 141.37 per cent.
The figures resulted in Vietnam’s high trade surplus of US$2.02 billion, said the commission.
Vietnam’s staple exports to the U.S. over the past decade include apparel, footwear, crude oil, seafood, woodwork and agricultural products.
Despite the worry about a possible recession of the U.S. economy, Vietnam expects that the country's export turnover to the vast market would be US$13.1 billion this year, up 28 per cent against 2007.
The U.S. is now Vietnam’s largest export market while the ASEAN country has been listed among 30 biggest exporters to the U.S. in 2007, according to a report by the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). (dataweb.usitc.gov, VNS)
