Vietnam H1 Rubber Exports Volume Falls 20 per cent to 228,000 Tons
Vietnam is estimated to have exported only 228,000 tons of rubber in the first six months of 2008, down 19.8 per cent compared to the same period of last year, report from the General Statistics Office (GSO) showed.

The exports brought in US$574 million, making a slight rise of 7.2 per cent on year, thanks to stable high export prices during the past months.

Currently, high demand but low supplies of rubber from China, the world biggest rubber producer has pulled up rubber prices on the world market to new high.

Export prices of Vietnamese rubber to China via Mong Cai border gate were averaging at US$3,302 a ton, the highest ever level so far.

However, the figures are much lower than targets set by the country early this year.

Vietnam expects to export around 780,000 tons of rubber worth US$1.5 billion in 2008, up 4 per cent and 2.3 per cent on year, respectively. (GSO June Edition)
