Vietnam Biggest City Fetches US$1.18 Bln in Jan-August
Ho Chi Minh City, the leading tourism hub of Vietnam fetches tourism revenues of VND18.9 trillion (US$1.18 billion) in the first eight months of 2008, up 38 per cent on-year.
The rise is attributed to the high flow of 1.9 million international tourist arrivals to the city in the reviewed period, the municipal tourism department said, adding that city fulfills 64 per cent of the whole year target.
In August, the city welcomes 238,000 foreign travelers, up 13 per cent against the same period last year.
The markets with largest number of tourists to the city come from the U.S., France, Japan, South Korea, and Australia.
Currently, the number of international tourists to HCM City accounts for 55 per cent of Vietnam’s total number.
The leading tourism hub is expected to welcome 3 million foreign tourists and earn VND19.5 trillion (US$1.21 billion) from tourism sector this year, up 14.8 per cent and 20 per cent respectively over 2007. (Saigon Liberation)
