The 2nd Vietnam Economic Forum will be organized in Hanoi September 19-20 to discuss policies to help Vietnam overcome difficulties caused by the global economic slowdown and keep a long-term and sustainable growth.

The forum, with the topic “Maintaining economic growth,” will attract the participation of Vietnamese senior leaders, international policymakers, CEOs from regional financial institutions and nearly 600 foreign guests.

Tran Mai Huong, deputy general director of Vietnam News Agency as well as co-chairman of the forum, said at a press briefing September 4 that the forum will focus on discussing the government’s key solutions to curbing inflation, maintaining economic growth and ensuring social welfare.

The first forum was held in Ho Chi Minh City in Sept 2007, which lured a lot of domestic and foreign economic experts and investors.

Vietnam Economic Forum is part of the national target program to promote foreign investment, said Phan Huu Thang, head of the Foreign Investment Department.

The second forum is aimed to publicize Vietnam’s policies and laws and seek solutions to help Vietnam overcome difficulties, he said.

In this forum, Minister of Finance Vu Van Ninh will announce new plans to stabilize and stimulate the domestic financial market.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan will chair a session on investment in infrastructure construction and training of skilled human resources for long-term economic development.

Ministry of Transport Ho Nghia Dung will also map out plans to develop transport infrastructure. (Local sources)
