Safety regulations for Vietnamese Exporters to the US
The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) has joined hands with the US Embassy in Vietnam to hold a conference entitled “Safety regulations for Vietnamese enterprises in export to the US”. At the conference, experts from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission – CPSC disseminated new information about regulations of exports to the US, particularly new reforms in consumer product safety acts of the US that will take effect from November 12 this year.
Laurie Hopkins, International Programs Coordinator, Office of International Programs and Intergovernmental Affairs said, according to CPSC, exports are required to have certificates of each shipment in line with CPSC’s requirements (regulations, bans, standards and principles). The certification has to base on experiment of every product or a trial. The certification focuses on not only certain products but also groups of products. Accordingly, products without certificates will not be imported or sold in the US.
The acts also stipulate that certificates have to be written in English and can be written in other languages. They are required to include names of producers, production day and places, contact information of individuals who are responsible for trial document management. Laurie Hopkins emphasised that the acts have created an ensured food safety environment, helping boost production and import of the US’s consumer products. If producers do not pay attention to quality products, their products will not be sold well.
