According to the VCCI’s report, the VCCI received over 3,000 delegations of 98,800 foreign entrepreneurs who came to Vietnam for investment and business opportunities between 2003 and 2008. It sent 1,230 missions with 27,900 Vietnamese enterprises aboard to join international conferences and exhibitions and survey markets; organised and co-chaired 860 conferences, forums and talks with Vietnamese companies in foreign countries, attracting the participation of 118,000 businesses.
Scale of investment and trade promotion activities sees an annual growth of over 30 per cent, of those, several points the growth of 2-3 times. Through market survey and study activities, especially organising business delegations accompanying the party and state leaders’ visits to foreign countries, Vietnamese enterprises inked contracts and agreements worth tens of billions of USD with foreign firms. These activities help to expand local exporters’ markets. Besides traditional markets such as Europe, the US, Japan, China and ASEAN, Vietnamese companies are expanding their export markets to potential destinations such as South Africa, the Middle East, South America, Russia and Eastern European countries.
To promote the national image and introduce the investment environments the VCCI has cooperated with ministries, agencies and localities to hold a programme entitled "Vietnam Days” in foreign countries. The programme has been carried out in key markets such as the US, Germany, the UK, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Singapore and South Korea since 2005 and gained positive results in the political, diplomatic, economic and cultural areas. Within the framework of the programme, local firms signed many big agreements and economic contracts.
The VCCI has implemented many activities to assist enterprises such as business forums and councils between Vietnamese firms with those from China, EU, Japan and Africa. During these forums, the VCCI has held a series of talks on policies, training, investment and trade promotion, drawing the participation of ministries, agencies, localities and domestic and foreign enterprises.
One of very important international events in 2006 was the VCCI’s participation in activities of the APEC 14 Week. The chamber chaired CEO Summit and APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) with leaders from APEC and Doing Business Forum with Vietnam and other events. These events have been considered the most successful so far by APEC business community as they proved the VCCI’s ability in organising big international events. These have helped the VCCI establish the investment promotion relationship with multi-national groups and call them to invest in and cooperate with Vietnam as well as assist local firms in the integration process. Additionally, the VCCI coordinated with many local ministries, agencies and localities to organise 18th Global Summit of Women and Doing Business Forum with Vietnam 2008 in Hanoi.
The VCCI has also enhanced its activities to assist enterprises in the integration, particularly WTO entry, with the focus on propagandising, introducing and raising integration knowledge for businesses, helping them deepen the competitiveness and self-protection capacity against international trade barriers.
The VCCI has actively contributed to the construction of policies and laws like anti-dumping ordinance, ordinance on anti-subsidy, ordinance on self-protection against imported goods into Vietnam; building the website on anti-dumping to support enterprises’ development.
These activities have made remarkable contributions to help local firms expand their market and also boost the VCCI’s relationship with both domestic and foreign enterprises and organisations.
VCCI-reliable support for Vietnamese businesses
Nguyen Minh Ky, Director of Khanh Ha Private Enterprise, Hue city
Over the past years, the VCCI has been a prestigious and reliable support for the Vietnamese businesses, especially for small and medium-sized ones. Most of the VCCI’s activities are essential, aiming to help local companies gain sustainable development and quickly affirm their position in local and foreign markets. As I know, many Vietnamese trademarks have become famous in the world market; being a great pride of the country’s business community and the VCCI has played an important role to make their success. The majority of local famous companies are senior members of the VCCI. The chamber’s assistance programmes have all been carefully selected and are highly appreciated by businesses. It think that during the country’s global integration, the VCCI should try its best to be a bridge between the businesses and the government, between local and foreign firms, particularly in the areas of information, consultancy and proving documents related to bilateral trade agreements and the WTO as well as other integration issues. It should seek the business community’s opinions for compiling legal documents. I hope that after the 5th Congress, the VCCI will reform itself and make further contributions with the role as a friend of the local business circle.
VCCI- Warm House for Vietnamese Businesses
Nguyen Thi Anh Dao-Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Association, Director of Da Nang Dong A College, Director of Minh Anh Food Company.
Being a senior member of the VCCI, I recognise the chamber’s great contributions to the Vietnamese business community. The VCCI has carried out many activities to assist enterprises, employers and associations effectively, particularly updating and timely proving legal documents, information about investment environment, im-export activities and domestic and world economic changes for businesses to help them have proper business orientations. The VCCI has actively contributed to personnel training for companies and helped them raise management and business capacity.
With these, the VCCI is considered as a warm house connecting Vietnamese entrepreneurs for the country’s socio-economic development. However, the VCCI has to do more for the business community development in the coming time, especially paying attention to businesses’ expectations. Therefore, the VCCI will act as a bridge and the most effective information exchange channel between local and international businesses. I wish the VCCI’s 5th Congress big success and to further contribute to the local business community’s development in the time to come.
VCCI Gives Many Opportunities to Us
Ms Pham Thi Xuan Nguyet, General Director of Da Nang Garment and Textile Company 29.3
Amid global and domestic economic instability, the fiercer competition pressure forces garment and textile companies to adopt suitable business strategies and make sound decisions. However, the effort of the company side is not enough but it needs support from the Government and the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas), especially support from the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).
VCCI plays a very important role in the development and growth of enterprises. The Danang Garment and Textile Company 29.3 received regular supports from VCCI for many years to improve its corporate competiveness via seminars, conferences, talks, dialogues and training courses. We gained useful knowledge and experience to grasp many opportunities and minimise risks from these events.
VCCI is always the strong and effective voice before central and local authorities. They help enterprises tackle difficulties and negative activities in the current complicated business environment.
