Local authorities in central Quang Ngai province have proposed the Government of Vietnam to allow Japan’s JFE Group to build a steel complex in the Dung Quat Economic Zone.

JFE is planning to develop a hi-tech steel complex with an annual capacity of 6 million-10 million tons in the locality.

If approved, the Japanese group will invest more than US$5 billion in the first phase of the project and US$8 billion-US$10 billion in the second stage.

JFE is now the world’s third largest steel groups, just behind Acelor-Mittan and Nippon Steel, according to Pham Chi Cuong, chairman of the Vietnam Steel Association. (Tuoi Tre Online)
