JFE Gets Nod to Make Pre-feasibility Report on US$5-Bln Vietnam Steel Project
Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has given a nod to Japan’s JFE Steel Group to conduct pre-feasibility study report for its US$5-billion steel complex in central Quang Ngai province’s Dung Quat Economic Zone, state media reported.
Based on ideas about the pre-feasibility study, the prime minister will consider and decide to add the project to Vietnam steel industry development plan until 2025.
The steel complex, set to have a capacity of 6 million-10 million tons a year, will use advanced production technology to save energy and have little impacts on environment.
The entire quantity of gas generated during production will be taken back in order to serve electricity production, part of the gas will be used to run the steel mill and the remainder will be sold to other enterprises in the economic zone as well as to local residents.
The complex, to cover 1,000 hectares of land, is expected to employ between 2,000 and 3,000 workers. (Vietnam Economic Times, VNA)
