The cabinet leader highly appreciated Porter’s deep understanding of Vietnam economy’s development, saying that information relayed by the professor during an international seminar on global competition and Vietnam’s advantages in Ho Chi Minh City December 1 was extremely useful for Vietnamese businesses and managers, particularly in the context of the ongoing global economic recession.
The guest’s objective analysis and assessments on competitive advantages will facilitate the Vietnamese government in short- and long-term administration during its cause of national industrialization and modernization, Dung said.
Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Porter highlighted several key areas that Vietnam should focus on developing, which would make good use of the country’s labor force and natural resources and suggested the establishment of a strategic economic agency to coordinate the policymaking process and oversee an improvement in competitiveness.
He also noted that in a drive to improve people’s living conditions, the nation should adopt a long-term economic strategy that combines a collection of reciprocal factors, including policy renewal, institutional structure and enforcement mechanisms.
During the two-day stay in Vietnam, Prof. Porter, who is generally recognized as the father of the competitive strategy, met with local officials, leading executives, scholars and policy makers to talk about strategies to sharpen Vietnam’s competitive edge in the coming years.
