Vietnam PM OKs To Develop US$50 Bln Coastal Regions of Tonkin Gulf
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has just approved a plan to develop coastal economic regions of Tonkin Gulf at an estimated cost of US$50 billion from now to 2020.
The government will develop the coastal region including northern province of Quang Ninh and seaport city of Haiphong with the focus on development of key transportation networks, shipbuilding yards and seafood production.
The region will contribute 6.5 per cent to 7 per cent of the country's GDP by 2020 and will post industrial production value of 18 per cent and 19 per cent/year.
The coastal economic region has with a natural area of 7,418.8 million square kilometers and a population of 2.9 million.
“The region will connect two economic belts between Vietnam and China and open opportunities for trade expansion of Asean and Beijing,” the government said.
By 2010, seafood output is set to hit US$600 million-US$700 million. (chinhphu.vn)
