The People’s Committee of southern Kien Giang province has just approved the U.S.-based firm’s tourism project worth US$2 billion.

The Limited Investments Zone will build a luxury tourism and entertainment complex on Phu Quoc Island, according to the news source.

However, more detail about the project has not yet been revealed at the moment.

The provincial committee said, Kien Giang has licensed 25 projects worth VND30 trillion into Phu Quoc Island district to date, including seven foreign-invested ones capitalized at some VND9.9 trillion, mostly focusing on tourism and services sectors.

Phu Quoc Island has taken the lead position in a list of Vietnam’s top ten domestic tourist destinations, according to the results of the ‘Best Brands of Vietnam 2008-2009’ campaign.

Vietnam plans to develop the island into a tourist island that will attract between two and three million visitors per year by 2020. (Saigon Liberation, Labor)
