Golfers Contribute VND900 Mln to Charity Purposes from Swing for the Kids 2009 Tournament

Swing for the Kids 2009 golf tournament successfully ended on May 30 at Tam Dao Golf Resort with the participation of 144 golfers.

 

The event’s organizer, Investment Newspaper, raised a total amount of around VND900 million (US$51,000) with the aim to provide scholarships to Vietnamese students who are facing with difficulties in living and studying and built and repair schools at underprivileged localities.

 

Of the amount, VND500 million was presented to Vietnam Study Encouragement Association and the remainder, coming from auction sales of the picture of Tiger Woods' win of the 2008 USA Open with his signature worth US$10,000, and some other products, will be used in urgent cases to build and upgrade schools badly affected by natural disasters.     

 

Mr. Cao Viet Sinh, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, appreciated the initiative of Investment Newspaper to organize the annual Swing for the Kids golf tournament for charity purposes.

 

Swing for the Kids 2009 welcomes the diamond sponsor of Vietnam-Australia Steel JV Company which also gave Tiger Woods’ Champion picture to the auction sale, and the gold sponsors of Vincom and Long Thanh Golf.

  

The charity sport event has been organized annually since 2007 and gained many special contributions from diplomats and especially businessman with the total value of VND400 million (around US$23,000) and VND700 million (US$40,000) in 2007 and 2008, respectively. All the money was spent on providing scholarships to poor students and repairing schools.
