HCM City Reports Tourism Revenue Rise Despite Drop of Int'l Arrivals
Ho Chi Minh City’s tourism sector made revenues of VND13.47 trillion (US$792.35 million in the first five months of this year, up 12 per cent on-year despite a sharp drop in international visitor arrivals.
Between January and May, the city welcomed 1.18 million foreign tourist arrivals, down 9 per cent on year, said the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The southern hub hopes to receive about three million international visitors in 2009 and make revenues of VND34 trillion (US$1.9 billion) in the year, a 10 per cent on year increase.
HCM city will start licensing foreign travel companies to open their representative offices and renew expired licensed for international travel office from next month, said the department. (People’s Deputy)
