Sapa Listed among World’s Top Seven Terraced Fields: U.S. Travel & Leisure
Sapa tourism resort in Vietnam’s northern Lao Cai province is named among the world’s seven most beautiful terraced fields, according to the U.S.-based Travel & Leisure magazine.
Other fields voted by the magazine’s readers include Banaye (the Philippines), Yuangyang (Yunnan, China), Ubud (Bali, Indonesia), Annapurna (Nepal), Mae Rim (Chiang Mai, Thailand), and Longji (Guilin, China).
Located at 1,550 meters above the sea level, Sapa is cloud-covered and cool year round. There are many magnificent mountains including the peak of Indochina - Fansipan of 3,143m elevation.
Nowadays Sapa attracts thousands of tourists from both Vietnam and abroad thanks to the cool and fresh climate, the sublime nature beauty and the colorful hill tribe cultures.
A third of the tourists to Sapa are foreigners from 90 different nationalities. The district’s tourism sector accounts for 6 per cent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product.
