Sixteen travel agents from the Philippines will visit Ho Chi Minh City from July 23 to 25 to carry out a market research project.

The project is being conducted by the Lac Hong Voyages Company, the Filipinos airline company and a number of five-star hotels in Ho Chi Minh City.

The southern economic hub is trying to lure visitors from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines since it has seen a sharp drop in the number of tourists coming from Europe and America due to the global economic crisis.

Between January and June of this year, the city welcomed 1.34 million foreign tourists, down 10 per cent on-year, said the Vietnam Administration of Tourism.

HCM City aims to serve about three million international visitors and earn tourism revenue of VND34 trillion in 2009, a 10 per cent on-year increase. (VOV)
