Vietnamese Firms Invest US$1.6B Abroad Jan-July

Vietnamese companies invested roughly US$1.6 billion in foreign countries and territories in the first seven months of this year, according to an official from the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI).
 
Phan Huu Thang head of the MPI’s Foriegn Investment Department said that the amount came from 41 projects, 20 of which increased their investment capital by US$200 million.
 
He also added that Vietnam’s total overseas investment has to date reached US$6.6 billion for 410 projects.
 
Laos attracts most of Vietnam’s investment with 161 projects worth US$2.6 billion, followed by Russia with 19 projects valued at US$1.2 billion and Cambodia with 40 projects costing over US$200 million.
 
The runners-up are Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, the U.S., and Taiwan.
 
Vietnam attracted US$10 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) between January and July this year, down 81.2 per cent from a year earlier, according to the MPI.
 
Between January and July, the country disbursed US$4.6 billion in FDI, down 22.5 per cent compared to the same period last year, the MPI said. (Young People)
