Many Vietnamese electronics trading companies have continuously launched big sales to ignite purchasing power, particularly in remaining months of the year.
LCD televisions discounted by 25 %
LCD televisions are the best selling among electronics and electric machinery products and home appliances; thus, many supermarket chains have launched big sales to ignite consumption. Mr Nguyen Minh Thu, marketing manager of Thien Hoa home appliances and electric machinery centre said many home appliances and electronic machinery products are saturated in the domestic market; particularly LCD televisions are families’ favourites to substitute for old ones. Thus, many trade centres and supermarkets often launch big sales on LCD televisions.
In addition, prices of various goods items including electronics, electric refrigeration, home appliances, digital, informatics and telecom equipment and facilities are also discounted considerably or sold with gifts attached. However, many consumers, particularly people who have never bought inventories, wonder whether inventories are of worse quality or outdated designs. A representative of Pico Plaza electric machinery supermarket said if consumers are quick-witted, they can buy televisions trademarked LCD Panasonic, LCD Samsung, air-conditioner trademarked LG Health Plus, DVD LG layers, and fridges trademarked Daewoo and MTXT HP Pavillion at discounted prices in addition to normal goods items.
Statistics said that revenues of many electric machinery supermarkets and centres are always high. Mr Nguyen Minh Hai, a marketing official of the Pico Plaza-Hanoi electric machinery supermarket said it started the first promotion campaign from October 16 with focus on LCD products with a lower price of VND1 million/product in addition to attached gifts.
In addition, Thu noted that prices of LCD televisions are discounted by between 10 % and 25 % to only between VND6 million and VND6.5 million/product from early year. Particularly, prices of normal televisions of slimfit and plasma fall to only VND1.7 million and VND2.3 million each.
Demand stimulus by promotion
Amid current economic downturn, consumers often carefully consider before deciding to buy goods; thus, promotion programmes are good jostles to make consumers decide more quickly.
However, many consumers said “The more promotion programmes are launched, the more carefully consumers will consider. Thus, in order to lure clients, enterprises should ensure product quality, clear-listed and competitive prices.” This is not too difficult for enterprises to do but it is hard for them to maintain. In order to ignite purchasing power, electric machinery enterprises’ promotion programmes have been central concern by consumers in remaining months of the year. Despite current promotion programmes, consumers are still waiting for more attractive big sales. Hanoi’s promotion month scheduled in November, 2009 with the participation of prestigious trade centres and enterprises, consumers will have a good chance to adventure with discount programmes.
In addition, the Vietnam-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (VJEPA) will take effect from October, 2009, which means that up to 92 % of import and exports between the two countries will benefit from tax cuts or tax exemptions. Electronic audiovisual products will benefit from tax cut and exemption for between five and ten years. The tariffs will be evenly divided for every year. Among them, Japanese-sourced imports including coloured televisions and home appliances will benefit from tax reduction of 40 %, cameras 10 %, components of flat-faced and DVD screens 3 %. Electric machinery centres said prices of home appliances and electric machinery products will be also lowered slightly.
