Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) requested local companies focus on quality, hygiene and safety of agricultural products so as to protect rights of domestic consumers and boost exports.

Nguyen Nhu Tiep, deputy director of the Agro, Forestry and Fisheries Quality Management Department under the MARD, made the requirement at a seminar entitled “To ensure food and agricultural products hygiene” in Hanoi Nov 12.

Tiep said that the move is aimed to boost production of agricultural products to serve exports, particularly key markets which require strict standards of hygiene.

Participants called on the authorities to issue standards of food hygiene and safety, strengthen oversight of agricultural processing businesses, and help raise public awareness of food hygiene.

The MARD has established a strategy to ensure food hygiene and safety to 2015 and vision for further development toward 2020. (VOV)
