Vietnam Earns $114.5M from Export of Dried Food in Jan-Oct, Up 7.7% On-Year

Vietnam earned $134.5 million from exporting of 35,398 tons of dried food in the first ten months of 2009, up 23.4% in volume and 7.7% in value against a year earlier.
 
Exports of dried foods to main markets including South Korea, ASEAN, China, Japan and the U.S. increased, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers said, quoting figures from the General Department of Customs.
 
South Korea was the biggest buyers of dried foods from Vietnam with 9,924 tons worth $49.3 million, up 131% in volume and 64.6% in value.
 
In Oct, the country imported 367 tons of food valued $2.1 million, up 52.4% and 26%, respectively compared to Oct 2008.
 
Also, dried food exports to ASEAN increased 121% in volume and 28.8% in value, to China up 18.6% in volume and 10.4% in value, to Japan up 101.5% in volume and 41% in value, in the U.S. up 175.7% in volume and 20.8% in value in Oct.
 
However, Vietnam’s dried food export to Taiwan, Russia and Ukraine decreased sharply, the association added. (Vasep)
