HCM City CPI Up 1.19% in Dec: Statistics Office
Ho Chi Minh City’s consumer price index in December is estimated to have soared 1.19% from last month, driven by higher costs of transports as a result of 0.05% hike in petrol price, the municipal Statistics Office said.
The CPI was up 7.71% from a year earlier, the office was quoted by Tuoi Tre newspaper as saying.
In December, transport recorded the highest on-month growth of 2.62%, followed by the group of other commodities and services with 1.78%.
Foodstuffs and services posted a rise of 1.4% from a month earlier, in which foodstuff rose 4.27% due to soaring rice prices backed by a recent on rice shortage.
Education remained unchanged as compared to last month while post and telecommunication slightly down by 0.13%.
Gold prices dropped slightly in December, following the global trend but rose 13.24% compared with the previous month. The U.S. dollar appreciated 4.56% against the dong on-month. (Youth)
