Vietnam's PE Bag Exports to U.S. Falls Sharply
Vietnam’s polyethylene (PE) bag exports to the U.S. has fallen sharply since the Department of Commerce (DOC) issued a decision on anti-subsidy and dumping duties in Oct, a Vietnamese official said last week.
American importers halved their orders for Vietnamese PE bags after the DOC decided to impose import duty between 25%-75% on bags originated from the Southeast Asian nation, the Dau Tu newspaper cited Ho Duc Lam, secretary general of the Vietnam Plastic Association.
The DOC is scheduled to give final judgment on the issue in the first quarter 2010.
Last year, Vietnam exported nearly US$80 million worth of PE bags to the U.S., accounting for 50% of the country’s total PE bags export revenue.
Currently, Vietnam exports PE bags to 45 markets.
The country is expected to earn US$1.1 billion from exporting PE bags in 2010. (Investment, Trade & Industry)
