FDI into HCM City Down 86% to US$1.2B This Year

Ho Chi Minh City estimated to pull in a total foreign direct investment (FDI) of US$1.2 billion this year, down 86% from a year earlier, according to the municipal Department of Planning and Investment.
 
This year, the city has licensed 369 FDI projects worth US$840 million, down nearly 28% in project number and 90% in capital value from a year ago respectively, the department added.
 
In the year, the city allowed 114 existing FDI projects to raise their capital by US$370 million, up 3.4% on-year in capital value.
 
The biggest project licensed in 2009 is a US$294-million realty project by British Virgin Islands’ Luks Viet Lien Company.
 
As of late October, the city had 3,092 valid FDI projects totaling US$27.14 billion, ranking the 1st nationwide. (Saigon Economic Times)
