Vietnam to Spend VND16.9B to Develop Software, Digital Content Industry

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved to add VND16.9 billion to the program on developing software and digital content industry in Vietnam by 2012, the government said on its website.
 
Of the total, VND16.38 billion will be allocated to support localities and VND520 million to the program’s management board.
 
The Ministry of Information and Technology is authorized to mobilize fund from businesses to organize training courses on technology, software production and management as a move to set up large companies in the industry in the future.
 
Earlier, the government approved the plan to spend VND980 billion from now until 2012 to boost the development of software and digital content industry.
 
Currently, Vietnam is ranked in top ten fast growing ICT nations by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
 
The country’s software industry is estimated to grow by 30% with revenues of US$880 million in 2009 and a target of US$1 billion by 2010. Digital content and online services industry may have revenues of US$700 million in 2009, up 58% on year. (www.chinhphu.vn))
