On January 14, 2010, in Hanoi, cabinet officials together with President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Vu Tien Loc, and the US Ambassador to Vietnam, Michael Michalak, will chair a ceremony to announce the Provincial Competitiveness Index 2009 (PCI 2009) and a workshop on provincial business environment improvement in Vietnam.

PCI 2009 will be built on feedbacks of nearly 9,890 enterprises - the largest number to date.

Launched in 2005, the annual Provincial Competitiveness Index is designed to assess and rank the performance, capacity and willingness of provincial governments to develop business-friendly regulatory environments for private sector development.

On the occasion of the 5-year construction and announcement of PCI, in addition to the announcement ceremony, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the US Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Vietnam Competitiveness Initiative (VNCI) will grant awards of the Vietnamese business community in the recognition of efforts to improve business environment in several localities.

They will also coordinate with the Tap Chi Cong San Magazine to host a conference on sharing experience in improving business environment for Vietnamese provinces and cities in important fields as human resource quality, training and public administration reform.
