Vietnam Ministry Plans Phone, Internet Survey

The Ministry of Information and Communications plans to launch a survey on the popularity of phone, internet and audio-visual equipment (radio and TV) throughout Vietnam beginning May 1.
 
This will be the first survey of its kind in the 60-year history of the ministry, the online newswire Vietnamnet said.
 
Deputy Minister Tran Duc Lai said the survey needs careful preparation as it is a broad scale survey covering every family, local governments and telecom firms.
 
The survey aims to help authorities design specific programs to provide phones, internet services and audio-visual equipment between 2011 and 2015, and plans on IT applications to turn Vietnam into a strong IT country by 2020.
 
Earlier, the ministry conducted a pilot survey in Dong Da district in Hanoi, Bac Ha district in Lao Cai province, Phu Loc in Thua Thien Hue and Tan Hiep in Kien Giang from September to November, 2009.
 
Vietnam now has 130.4 million telephone subscribers, equivalent to 152.7 phones per 100 people, with 85.39% of them being mobile subscribers, and over 22.47 million internet users, including 2.89 million of broadband internet subscribers. (Vietnamnet)
