Vietnam Woodwork Firms Alarmed About Exports to U.S.
Vietnam woodwork exporters will face difficulties to sell their products in the U.S. when the Lacey Act goes into effect April 1, said Tran Quoc Manh, vice chairman of the HCM City Handicraft and Wood Industry Association (HAWA).
The HAWA proposed the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to allow it to issue wood certificate of origin for Vietnam’s woodwork exporters, Manh said.
The Lacey Act makes it unlawful to import, export, transport, sell, receive, acquire, or purchase any plant or timber without certification of origin, and those acts could be considered as violations of the laws of the United States and any foreign law that protects plants
According to the act, violators will be arrested and fined, and the products will be confiscated. (Youth)
