Vietnam is ranked the 3rd among economies worldwide which Japanese companies want to expand their production in, a survey by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) showed.

The survey on Japanese firms’ operations abroad in the fiscal year of 2009 indicated that Vietnam stands at the 6th among markets which Japanese investors want to expand their sales in.

The Southeast Asian nation is listed the 9th among markets which attract Japanese businesses’ attention for distribution expansion.

It is also considered the fifth most attractive market for Japanese companies to increase their research and development activities, according to the survey.

More Japanese businesses plan to invest in Vietnam, particularly in the areas of services, precise engineering, chemicals, petroleum products, IT and electronics equipment, JETRO said.

As of end-November last year, Japanese companies invested in US$17.8 billion in nearly 1,200 projects in Vietnam, ranking the fourth among foreign investors in the country. (VNA)
