Japan to Provide JPY15B for Vietnam SMEs
The Japanese government will provide a JPY15 billion (US$166.34 million) loan for Vietnam’s Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Finance Project-phase 3 (SMEFP III), the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) said.
The SMEFP III aims to give medium and long-term loans to Vietnamese SMEs through local banks and also boost the country’s banking development strategy and economic growth.
The 1st and 2nd phases of the SMEFP project, funded by the Japanese government through the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), has provided loans totaling JPY9 billion to Vietnamese SMEs.
Vietnam and Japan signed a note of exchange for JPY25.82 billion (US$289.96 million) in ODA on March 2 key infrastructure projects, including Can Tho Bridge, the third phase of National Highway No.1 and Terminal T2 at Noi Bai International Airport.
At the Consultative Group Meeting held in Hanoi on December 3-4 last year, Japan pledged to provide Vietnam with US$1.64 billion in ODA this year. (SBV)
